Murder and mystery abound in this ingenious play from the master of the genre. A greedy husband tries to take advantage of the sudden death of his brother-in-law by trying to convince his wife that she is on the verge of a nervous breakdown and then, with the assistance of his girlfriend, to kill her and make it look like suicide. However his plans are horribly thwarted and he himself ends up dead. But how – and by whom? Suspects line up, from a business associate aware of his dodgy dealings in the property market, the ex-company solicitor whose wife is seriously ill as a consequence of one of those dealings, his wife’s friend seeking revenge for her daughter’s death, the wife herself, or was he just the next victim of a killer prowling the area?
The investigation is in the hands of Superintendent Jordan, a very shrewd man who asks all the important questions. Jordan is good at his job but his passion is as a budding author, writing books that ‘solve’ previously unsolved murders. His talent is such that the Americans require him to travel over there in order to publicise his books. Is this case beyond even his capabilities? Can he solve it before he possibly leaves the force? What does his future hold?
Why not try to solve the puzzle yourself by joining us at the Plowright Theatre for one of the performances.
